Case Study: Product Design

Proceed to CAD & Visualization

Generally, the development of a new product follows a very predictable path of evolution; beginning first with the conceptual exploration, followed by the technical development, and finalized by production and delivery. In this case study, we'll outline the development process of the Coolwell Air-Nozzle; a sub-project of the Coolwell G2 Personal Climate Control.

Through close collaboration with course executives, PGA pros, and repeat players, we are able to develop a very well defined-tree of objectives. Applying the IdeaWorks I.D.E.A.S. approach allows us to then deliver an elegant solution that meets every one of their requirements.

Defining the Requirements Defining the Requirements

Needs:

3 axis of adjustment

safe impact and swing-away response

sightless one-handed adjustability

Self-Insulated against Radiant heat

Wants:

Aroma therapy output

Cart-matching colors

Removable Hand piece

Universal Cart Attachment

Exploring Potential Solutions Exploring Potential Solutions

Once we define the project requirements, we begin exploring unique "blue sky" solutions to the user's needs.

Generally, several potential designs are selected for further exploration and comparison.

Developing Usable Concepts Developing Usable Concepts

Using Shop Mock-ups and/or rapid prototypes, we then construct mockups of several preferred concepts. These concept models provide an effective means to gather honest, hands-on feedback from unbiased users.

Refining the Design Refining the Design

The feedback gained from the concept model review provides designers with enough data to optimize a final concept prior to moving into the CAD development stages.
